The Tasman Sea

We spent the night at an Okay2Stay winery grounds – Waitapu Estate Vineyard. Lovely house, the owners were vacationing in Australia so their housesitter, Alwyn, gave us the tour of the main house sharing a bottle of house red wine with us while the kids enjoyed some TV.  Alwyn shared several great stories about kiwi culture, politics, taxes, places to go, and the Mauri people. Despite a night of rain and wind that shook the campervan from side to side, we absolutely love this little winery on top of a hill with a gorgeous view of the infamous 90-mile beach (see the movie Endless Summer) overlooking the Tasman Sea.

Kids caught up on some school work in the morning. We will drive north today to Cape Reinga, the Far North point of the North Island where the Tasman and the Pacific meet; the crashing of the seas should be exciting. All this time we have only seen the Tasman Sea but today we cross to the other side of the island for the Pacific Ocean.
