Blue Mountains

Our first hostel stay is in the Big Blue Mountains! We embrace the chance to meet travelers, many of whom have decided to stay in the area and now we know why. The Blue Mtns. are low key and beautiful!!

Three Sisters

Can you see the blue? It’s mesmerizing. Our “Blue” hikes rank right up there with New Zealand: 1) Nice walk to neighboring town, Leura, to watch Giants Game 7 Victory! The pub cheered with beers the whole way! 2) Blue Mountain cliff walk and 3) Sunset hike to the Three Sisters* (see above). Shazam!

*Story of the Three Sisters: According to Gundungurra legend, 3 beautiful sisters once lived in the valley and fell in love with 3 brothers from a neighboring tribe (Dharruk people). Marriage was forbidden but the warrior brothers decided to take the maidens by force causing a tribal war. The Kuradjuri (clever man) of the Gundungurra people then turned the sisters into stone. The Kuradjuri planned to restore the maidens after the war but he was killed and nobody has been able to break the spell.
