The Indonesian flag is known as Sang Merah-Putih. {translation: “The Red and White”} The red section on the top represents courage and sacrifice. The white Screen Shot 2015-02-15 at 6.44.22 PMon the bottom represents purity and peace. These two colors were sacred in Austronesian mythology. They symbolized ‘Mother Earth’ and ‘Father Sky’.

National Animal:

Indonesia’s national animal is the Komodo Dragon. From 10ft long and weighing over 300lbs, the Komodo is the heaviest lizard on Earth. On the islands they live on, they are the consumers of almost anything being carnivores, including carrion, deer, pigs, smaller dragons, and even large water buffalo and humans! Jeez! They largely rely on their camouflage when hunting though. On the other hand, these beasts can only run up to 11 mph! Sadly today, they are on the endangered species list. 🙁
